Bite-Sized Self-Care Challenge Day 29
Positive Self-Talk: day 29 of the QUALITY BOSS 30-day self-care challenge.
Welcome to day 29 of the self-care challenge! You can catch up here if needed.
Today’s Bite-Sized Self-Care: Positive Self-Talk
Who do you talk to the most? You might think of a family member, a friend, a co-worker, or perhaps a pet. But would it surprise you to learn that the person you talk to the most is actually yourself?
Throughout the day, we all have a continuous inner dialogue. That voice inside your head – is it kind and truthful? Many of us aren't fully aware of how negative this inner voice can be and the impact it has on us.
I've recently embraced some effective strategies for managing this inner voice. First, I realized that believing this voice is a choice. Just like deciding whether or not to believe what someone else says, I have the power to accept or reject my own thoughts. Recognizing that a thought is not necessarily the truth can be incredibly empowering. Second, I've started to really listen to the tone of my inner dialogue. Would I ever talk to a loved one – a family member, a friend, or even a boss – in the same way? If not, it's a sign that I need to cultivate a more compassionate and supportive inner voice.
Today’s Challenge:
Imagine what you would want a loved one to say to you today, and then practice saying those same encouraging words to yourself. Here are some examples to get you started:
“I’m so proud of you.”
“You’re doing great!”
“I love you.”
“You’re a kind, caring person, and I appreciate you.”
If you’re up for a longer challenge, observe your inner dialogue for a day. Write down your thoughts if it helps. And then ask yourself – are these thoughts true? Are they kind?
Conversation Starters:
What makes it okay to talk to yourself like this but not others?
How would others react if you talked to them like this?
How would you feel if this voice was kind, compassionate, and supportive?
How do you want to show up for yourself every day?
You got this,
Brie
