This week’s article is a little different from most. I initially planned on sharing my notes and thoughts on John C. Maxwell’s latest book, High Road Leadership.
However, several things happened this week:
💻 On Monday, I started a new job!
🏥 Wednesday through Friday, I helped a family member navigate a health crisis and spent two days talking to doctors, nurses, and social workers in the ICU.
Instead of forcing myself to finish the High Road Leadership article, I focused on family and self-care. Apart from visiting the hospital, I spent my weekend doing yoga, catching up on Emily in Paris, walking my dogs, and treating myself to Indian food and Ridge Zinfandel.
Being at the hospital this week reminded me how important self-care is. It’s not just attending to our physical and medical needs but paying attention to our mental and emotional well-being.
Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or time-intensive. A little bit can go a long way. If you need ideas for your own self-care, please check out my 30-day challenge.1
Once I’m settled in with the new job, and my family member is out of the hospital, I’ll be back with a look at John C. Maxwell’s latest book, High Road Leadership, and more articles on Quality Engineering.
