Today’s Bite-Sized Self-Care: Take a Break
Sometimes, I get so focused on the task at hand, that I forget about everything else. I forget to drink water, I might even skip a meal. This could last for hours, until I’m done, or until thirst, hunger, or needing to pee makes it impossible to continue.
While it’s nice to have this level of focus at times, skipping meals and ignoring other bodily needs, isn’t so great. Taking a break can help clear your mind, and leads to better focus and productivity.
These days, I try to schedule frequent breaks into my routine. To make sure I don’t forget, I use a visual timer1 that I keep on my desk. It shows me how much time is left, and has an optional, audible sound when the time’s up.
For a short break, I like to take a minute or two to stretch, or I might do some bodyweight squats (my trainer wants me to work up to 100/day). On a longer break, Indy and Roxy love to go for walks around our neighborhood.
Today’s Challenge:
This one is super simple! Take a break. You can use this break to stretch, get a glass of water, go to the bathroom, close your eyes and do nothing, daydream–whatever your heart desires.
