Today’s Bite-Sized Self-Care: Read
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved reading. When I was a kid, I would check out the maximum number of books possible (around 12 I think) from the local library, devour them, and ask to be taken back again a few days later.
Reading sparked my love for stories and fueled my passion for writing. Over the years, my reading preferences have expanded from primarily fiction to a broader range that includes non-fiction, biographies, memoirs, and a variety of audiobooks.
Some of my all-time favorites are The Dark Tower1 series by Stephen King, Watership Down by Richard Adams, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Chief Inspector Gamache Mysteries by Louise Penny, Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff, The Licanius Trilogy by James Islington, Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick, Love Warrior by Glennon Doyle, Dare to Lead by Brené Brown, and Fierce Fairytales: Poems and Stories to Stir Your Soul by Nikita Gill.
Reading is such a wonderful habit. Reading can be relaxing, it can be educational, and it can also be a way to escape into wonderful or fantastical stories. Whether reading a physical, digital, or e-book, an online article or listening to an audiobook, reading helps stimulate your brain.
Today’s Challenge:
Take 5 minutes (or more if you have time) to read something you enjoy. A book, a newspaper, an interesting online article–you’re already reading this, so why not read a little bit more?
What are your favorite things to read?
Let’s turn the page,
Brie
