Bite-Sized Self-Care Challenge Day 21
Celebrate the Small Stuff: day 21 of the QUALITY BOSS 30-day self-care challenge.
Welcome to day 21 of the self-care challenge! You can catch up here if needed.
Today’s Bite-Sized Self-Care: Celebrate the Small Stuff
Congratulations, you made it to day 21! And if you’re new here, congrats on joining us!
Too often, we get caught up waiting for the next big thing–a promotion, a raise, a major life event like getting married, having a child, or buying a house–to celebrate.
One theme you may have noticed in these self-care tips is that many are about taking time out for small things and stopping to appreciate the little things in life. Not everything is a lifetime major achievement, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn't celebrate. There is significance and joy found in life's everyday moments, you just have to take the time to look for it. Acknowledging these small, everyday achievements can help boost self-esteem and motivation.
In Tiny Habits1, one of BJ Fogg’s main points is the key to building a successful habit is to celebrate every time you complete the habit. Starting an exercise habit or a new diet? Celebrate every time you exercise or follow the diet, don’t wait until you hit a major goal or milestone.2
After reading Tiny Habits, I decided to bring more celebration into my life, starting with celebrating around habits. While I wasn’t successful at building all the habits I wanted, I did immediately notice that I felt an increased motivation and desire. I love celebrating my habits, and I love how I feel now that I’ve extended this beyond just habits.
Today, I’m celebrating completing (and writing) the challenges for the first 21 days of our 30-day challenge.
Today’s Challenge:
Celebrate the small wins. Did you make the bed? Exercise? Make an effort to stay hydrated, or floss your teeth today? Even just showing up for day 21 of our self-care challenge is something worth celebrating. You don’t need to be building a new habit to take advantage of the benefits of celebration. Every day brings opportunities for small celebrations, not just in the context of habits but in all aspects of life.
So, give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy the moment.
Some of my favorite celebration options from Tiny Habits:
98: Imagine a sparkling aura around you.
100: Do your best Fred Flinstone impersonation and say “Yabba Dabba Doo!”
6: Visualize fireworks going off for you.
71: Shout “Touchdown!” and raise your arms like a football referee.
36: Do a celebration dance.
Or come up with your own, unique celebration ritual. Doing something that resonates for you will have the most benefit.
Conversation Starters:
What are some of your small wins?
How do you like to celebrate?
Thanks for joining me on this challenge. I hope you’ve enjoyed it so far, and I look forward to sharing the rest with you over the coming days.

Fogg even recommends celebrating three times per habit, “…the moment you remember to do the habit, when you’re doing the habit, and immediately after completing the habit.” That’s a lot of celebrating! However, if you’re struggling with building new habits, I highly recommend giving it (and reading Tiny Habits) a try. For today’s self-care challenge though, we’re only concerned with taking a moment to celebrate any win, big or small, even if it’s not habit-related.
